I keep intending to post and then forgetting to do so. Whoops! Anywho, here are the most exciting things in my life right now.

1. There is a giant writer conference going on about two metro stops from here in two weeks and the student price is great. I'm super excited about going. One of my professors is even presenting on a panel (which explains why she mysteriously decided to cancel class February 3rd. How exciting is this? SO EXCITING! I might actually convince myself to take the steps to become a legit for-profit writer and/or English major. At the very least maybe my fic will improve! :D

2. I have been super busy crocheting. There is actually a knitters club that finally started posting when they met around campus and I went last week. It was okay. I think it'll be more fun in the future when I get to know them better. In the mean time I present some of the critters I've made:
Pictures! )

3. I wrote a story and posted it to [livejournal.com profile] sundaysnuggles , which you can find here!

Mostly I spent today doing nothing, save for my trip to Target in the morning. The doing nothing consisted of reading things and poking at Tango again. We'll see how that goes, eh?

Man oh man am I ready to get back to school. I have no less than six packages waiting for me (four of books, one new shirt, and one new cd) and it's been more than four weeks since I last checked my mailbox. I've been offered a job interview at the LGBT Resource Center, as well as a full time Executive Board position for Scrabble Club. I miss my friends. Heck- I practically even miss going to class. I'll be glad to get back there this Sunday.

I've been pretty crafty these past couple of days at home (in the midst of utter boredom and total sympathy for my mom's sudden loss of direction).

Pictures and crafts under the cut... )

Aside from that, I've been trying to get into gear writing. I've been kind of unfocused lately. SO as part of my 101 goals in 1001 days I am offering up another PROMPT ME CHALLENGE. I did this previously here to loads of fun and good results, so I'm doing it again and hope to have a prompt me post every month. Please leave a prompt! A request, a challenge, a word, a pairing, a scenario, whatever you see fit and I'll do my best to respond with at least a drabble. Last time my responses got kind of epic length. Maybe it'll happen again! :D

So, my family's had some troubles recently. My dad went up to Pennsylvania to interview for a job that he really wanted. He bought a new tie and everything. They never got back to him, at all, which is odd because it's a rather high level professional job and they could at least send something, right? On top of this, my mom needs to have elbow surgery again, which means she has to put off her last semester of school (she's training to become a nurse) until this summer. She already had to do this to have the first surgery and she made a bunch of friends with this new group, who are sad to see her go. I just- I dunno. There's nothing, really, that I can do but I hate to see them both bummed out about this stuff, which is in no way under their control.

When I picked mom up from school today, after she found out she'd have to drop, I took her out to lunch somewhere we don't usually go and then played chauffeur for an afternoon of shopping. Played Scrabble with my dad- my best game ever, actually, it was fabulous. I used up all my letters once and managed to beat him! Yay bonding! I took a picture of the board, because it was a pretty impressive game.

Yay scrabble picture! )

Aside from emergency parental bonding, I've been up to a bit of crafting and a bit of writing. I'm working on Experience Required (that one with the mechanic on the living spaceship?) from a long time back. Sudden inspiration, let's just say. And I'm considering a dozen nine six [livejournal.com profile] shkinkmeme fills. Hoping to be social with my friends tomorrow and maybe do all the things from my list today I didn't get done. D: Cleaning. There may be crafty pictures tomorrow too, fingers crossed!

Ugh.

So family visiting aside (which was actually quite endurable, verging on fun) the beginning of break has been not so great. Namely, this is because I got food poisoning on Monday night, and spent the entirety of yesterday in bed/ the bathroom. Today I'm still all exhausted and weak, not managing full meals quite yet and generally not enjoying myself.

Tomorrow my parents and I are driving down to Atlanta to see Cirque du Soleil, which I'm quite looking forward to. The upcoming holiday itself shouldn't be bad either, all things considered, and the day following Christmas, we're going to see a glass art exhibit in Nashville, meeting my grandparents there for a nice little day outing. Hopefully after that I'll actually be willing and able to meet up with my friends (whom I haven't really seen yet).

The traveling of the first two days of break brought some nice results, in that I finished a couple of crochet critters and snagged a bit of my grandmother's ridiculous collection of yarn. She has like, eight or nine giant tubs of the stuff- stacked all the way to the ceiling in the closet of one of the bedrooms. It's ridiculous! Here are some pictures of my latest creation, your friendly neighborhood angel Castiel from Supernatural. He's missing his coat and tie, but I did what I could and am pretty pleased with how he turned out. Hair, for the record, is hard to do.

Cut for picture! )

Now I'm off to read things. I got the latest Bartimaeus book, The Ring of Solomon (which is actually a prequel, and has been wonderful so far), and am also currently perusing with interest the annotated Shadow of the Templar story. Quite good distractions for a gurgling stomach. *curls up*

When class gets cancelled... I make a zombie!

This is my first attempt at using the patterns in that book I mentioned a while back. It didn't turn out like the pictures, but I'm proud of my little zombie creation. He doesn't have a name yet- any suggestions? My suitemate is getting me some red thread so that I can make some more details (I'm considering giving him a little heart on his chest. Anyway, here's the picture!

I took a nap earlier this afternoon and feel considerably better. Not all the way normal, but that's okay because tomorrow is Labor Day and we don't have classes then. I think I'm going to go to the library and rent a movie to watch tomorrow.

Today there was a tie-dying booth on the quad, and I tie-dyed a white sweatshirt with purple and blue colors. It's currently in a zip-lock bag beside my desk, so I hope it turned out alright. I'll take it out, unrubberband it and rinse it later this evening to find out! I had a lot of fun this afternoon. There was also a poster sale and I got a Supernatural poster of the boys (minus Cas *sadface*). I also got a little print of Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night.I'm quite happy. Now the space above my bed (which is in a corner, and one wall of which is made partially of windows) has those posters, my "-TO VICTORY" dalek poster, and the dream catcher Shaina gave me before she moved. It's quite lovely.

Productivity-wise, I got a lot done today. I sent emails I needed to, read half my philosophy assignment for Friday, printed out my new schedule, tie-dyed, shopped for posters, and applied to six (6) jobs! I had eight I wanted to apply to, but the last two have requirements that weren't easily met. I don't know how to get an official transcript for the Writing Program, and an Office Assistant position asked for a writing sample. I've never applied to something that wanted a writing sample, and I'm not sure what kind of sample/what kind of writing they're looking for. (I know it's certainly not slash though, guys! XD )

I should probably eat actual food for dinner, if I can find some. I had cereal for breakfast, gummy bears and free nan (which was also out, with a bunch of foreign-y foods on the quad) for lunch and... um. Have sort of been snacking on gummy bears for dinner. So healthy, I know. :P

ALSO: You would think in half a 16 by 20 foot dorm room I would not be able to lose Felix's cord. Especially you would think I couldn't loose the back up as well. Yet somehow, I have. :/
Sitting in my living room.

Got a letter the other day from one of the colleges I've been waiting to hear back from. After much suspense, tension and hullabaloo I opened it to reveal: a request for my test scores.

Turns out they already had them. *sigh* Please just let me in already.
