Note to self:

You cannot fill all of the Moran/Moriarty prompts on the kink meme. You have to do schoolwork at some point.

I am unstoppable.

For those looking for Sherlock, may I direct you to this post on tumblr.

So if you couldn't tell from my last post, which included fic, I have something of an intense obsession with BBC's Sherlock. If a bit of fic doesn't convince you, perhaps the fact that in the last three days I've watched nearly the entirety of both seasons, except for the second episode of the second season.

Guys. This show. This show. I haven't been this hyped about a fandom for ages. I mean, I liked it when I watched the first season, but this has turned into a kind of burning love that shall never die. Or something.

I have a tumblr now. You can find me at sebastianmeringue.tumblr.com. Right now it is rife with spoilers for Season 2 of Sherlock (in the form of gifs, photos, quotes, etc) so I wouldn't go there unless you've already seen the season or don't plan to see it at all.

In non-Sherlock related news in my life: I am overwhelmed with applications for things, but yesterday was a day of pure fun. Write in for three hours with another girl (who, coincidentally studied last fall in London through the exact same program I plan to this fall), quidditch practice, lunch with the team, then-- erm. Sherlock with a friend. I guess it's not entirely non-Sherlock related.

I hope everyone else is doing well. I didn't get the chance to send the screwdriver package yet, but I'll get to that tomorrow. Haven't heard from Skimbli in a while, but I realize this is a pretty busy (hopefully exciting and awesome) time for him right now. Anyway, my thoughts go out to you all and hope you're well!

I've spent a while composing this list. It's very subjective and definitely not a complete representation of all the great BBC Sherlock fic out there, but it does contain stories that I enjoy and that have stuck in my head.

So I'll just leave this here... )

Health... )

Work has fluctuated between long periods of intense boredom and short periods of... slightly less boredom. The last job my mentor gave me was essentially to clean his office... but he told me there was no rush. Whenever I felt like it. *facepalm* I've made another connection though and spent some time this afternoon doing inventory in the Sample Environment Cage, making up labels for the sample sticks. It's not exciting work, but it's much more fulfilling than what I have been doing (i.e. nothing) and I feel much more comfortable asking questions of the woman with whom I'm working than I have around my official mentor. Hopefully this means I'll have something to do for the remainder of my position at the lab-- only four more weeks!-- but if not, the books I recently ordered came in and I have things from the library to renew. :)

I've also caught up recently with a friend from high school, which has been nice. Despite not speaking regularly throughout the past year, we've picked up again easily and I got her into Sherlock (and the associated fandom). Getting to spend time with her has been a bright point in the past few weeks. As far as fandom goes, I haven't had much time/energy for writing, but I feel that I'm close to a breakthrough with the auction fics I've promised. Probably I should've warned my bidders that I am both a perfectionist, not very quick, and rather busy. I hope I give them something worth the wait.

As for you all, lovely f-list, I am behind in reading and commenting (though more so the latter than the former). I'm sorry to hear about all your troubles. It sounds like it's been a rough couple of weeks! I hope everyone makes it through alright. <3

I finished one of my auction fics! The other person hasn't responded to a request for a prompt yet, but I finished the one I was writing for [livejournal.com profile] agarmentofwings . It's the sequel to one of the fics I wrote for the other auction, "Of Hunger" and can be read here. Fluff, hurt/comfort, pg rating and implied Sherlock/John, or at the very least they have no personal space issues.

I haven't been bored recently, thank goodness, though I have been reading more fic than is probably healthy. I've also been crocheting a bit. I renewed my library card and found a book on amigurumi (I'm making the cutest hedgehog ever!). I also got Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers because a professor recommended it to me-- I have no idea how we got onto the subject, but what she told me about it helped me to write a great poem. On top of that I got Mark Gatiss' book, The Vesuvius Club. I got kind of a weird look at the checkout desk.

In other news, I am officially officially employed! I just have some paperwork to hand in and I can start. Hooray!

So, reading week before finals has become more a writing and lounging around week for me. Hopefully I'll still get everything done by the time exams come around, but in the meantime I wrote a silly BBC Sherlock friendship fic based off of a prompt on the kink meme. It's written anon but I'm owning up.

Prompt: 221b is invaded by garden gnomes
Story: Home Invasion

I've been largely absent for the past couple of weeks and probably won't reliably return until next week. I'm going to spend some time catching up on comments and my f-list today, but in the coming week I'll be participating full time in a service project. Hopefully it will be fun.

In my absence: my parents visited, I had two job interviews, was invited to share an apartment with a friend over the summer, failed a logic test, aced two archaeology tests, offered fiction for the New Zealand Auction here -- the bidding ends for that on Sunday if anyone's interested; I've worked a bit on the "Airport" story that made an appearance in this meme, begun anonymously filling a Torchwood/Sherlock prompt on the [livejournal.com profile] shkinkmeme  here (which is going a lot faster than the previously mentioned story, in all truth), and have failed to begin writing the three archaeology papers that will be due in the next month.

I also bought bus tickets to NYC for a day trip with a few of my friends in April, and took over more serious responsibilities for Scrabble Club and am in charge of advertising for our tournament. I made cookies for my roommate's birthday and found a neat chocolate-cake-in-a-mug recipe to try out, and discovered this adorable video of baby red pandas. I went to the zoo and saw two theater productions, 12 Angry Men and Laughter on the 23rd Floor, which were fabulous, plus the film Unknown, which was not as good as it could have been.

So, um, I've been a bit busy. :D

Today is a dull day, because Alternative Breaks doesn't start until tomorrow and now that it's spring break there's approximately no one on campus, the dining hall is closed and the bus is running on a slower schedule. Not to mention the vending machine ate my money and told me I couldn't have a soda. But I finally have the time to respond to everybody's entries, so hooray! Right after I go raid another dorm's vending machine...

I'm okay, everybody. Friday night and the hours into Saturday I couldn't sleep were terrible, but I'm doing pretty well. On Saturday, when I wanted nothing more than to hide in my room all day, my friends dragged me out to the quidditch match right after I woke up. Then they convinced me to actually play. We went out for lunch afterward and then came back to the dorm to watch Sherlock Holmes (with Jude Law and RDJ), so I didn't have time to mope or feel sorry for myself, which was exactly what I needed. I also went to go see 12 Angry Men that night, because Rachel had the part of the guard.

Sunday composed of a bit of moping, watching a lot of television, and crocheting. I've set up an Etsy shop, which you can find here. There isn't much in there at this point, but several people have suggested I start one, so I finally did. I'm uncomfortable putting up things that come straight out of the Creepy Cute Crochet book, so it'll mostly all be modified designs up there. However, if anybody wants something specific there's a button to request a custom item. I'm up for anything. :)

Funny thing is, I only just learned that I was doing the most basic crochet stitch (the single crochet) wrong this entire wrong, which explains why I couldn't tell any difference between it and a slip stitch in my work. Who knew! If I do the stitch correctly the plushies I make come out about 5 inches tall. I kind of prefer the smaller, 2.5 inch ones though, so maybe I'll keep doing it wrong sometimes.

I have a bunch of homework to catch up on and a bit of cleaning to do. Next week is sort of busy, and my parents are coming in to town. I was going to bake today, but I'm not sure now that I'll get around to it. We'll see!
( Feb. 11th, 2011 12:23 am)
Now that my school!writing has been gotten out of the way I'm a healthy ~600 words into the first of four projects I'd like to see finished sometime soonish. I haven't finished my auction things, but I am working on them a bit every day so they're coming along nicely. I'll get pics up once they're finished. Aside from that I need to learn four chapters of logic before the test on Tuesday. I think I get most of it, but just in case I have a fabulous study buddy.

Having no Valentines plans for myself, I have committed myself to a 5 movie long chick flick marathon with a friend of mine and her roommates, as well as helping my friend's boyfriend surprise her. Woohoo!

In other news, I've made a wonderful new friend- someone who knew about Firefly without me introducing her, loves Shakespeare, and is a Sherlock Holmes nerd- that I've been introducing to Doctor Who. She's recently been devastated by the loss of the ninth Doctor. I helped console her by agreeing to watch The Twelfth Night. It was suitably hilarious and wonderful.

So yeah... yay for Friday!

OH! And thanks for the gift [livejournal.com profile] theskimblishone ! I'm thrilled and excited!

Title: A Different Kind of Game Part One (of Two)
Fandom: BBC Sherlock
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 5266
Warnings: Non-con sexual situation, kidnapping
Disclaimer: Obviously not mine.
A/N: Originated from this prompt, which reads: Some serial killer shitbag is kidnapping handsome men with exceptional gifts for his big 'ole sex dungeon. And he's just added Sherlock Holmes to the collection. I've cleaned it up a bit and fixed some typos. This is slash (though more adventure than romance), so if sexually inclined Sherlock makes you squirm I suggest you pass over this.

This actually reminds me of my first explorations into fandom, when I wrote for NCIS. MC falls into the hands of evil villain, withstands dastardly treatment, is rescued. You would just figure Sherlock has to add "solve a mystery" to this one. :)

He wakes with an aching in his head and a languidness in his limbs... )
( Nov. 7th, 2010 10:42 am)
It's a good thing there was no reason for me to wake up today. I completely forgot about the time change, which made for a nice hour of reveling, lounging, reading and generally wasting time once my phone reminded me. I can't think of a better way to have started the day!

I've talked quite a bit about NaNo on here, or over at [livejournal.com profile] nano_haven , so I figure it's about time I admit what I'm actually working on. It will probably never be posted here in its current form, for a variety of reasons not the least of which being that it needs quite a bit of editing, but it seems kind of likely that you'll see it eventually. I'm working in the Memory Thief verse, following the separate lives of three different characters.

Malachi, Peter, and Seth... )

Aside from working on NaNo, I'm also kind of doing a ridiculous amount of writing. I'm working variably on fills for [livejournal.com profile] shkinkmeme (which I would totally link you to, if anyone is interested at all; they range from fluff to incredibly horribly dark, and pre-established relationship to settled down), as well as plotting out a short zombie fic (remember Trent and Yuri, anyone?) and poking at Something to Believe In. I also updated my master list, so it is now completely accurate and up to date.

Aside from that, I am studiously ignoring my philosophy paper and refraining from thinking to pointedly about all the research I need to finish for my UW. I'm pretty sure I need 5-8 more sources for my annotated bibliography. D:

Also, my roommate and I actually have plans to hang out. She's obsessed with Masterpiece Theater and has finally figured out what channel it's on here. As it just so happens, Masterpiece has been playing Sherlock for the past two Sundays and the final episode is tonight (how in the hell I missed this, I will never understand). Point being, we're watching together! I so need a Sherlock icon...And I'm also using it as an excuse to re-watch the first two episodes
.
